Waiting

A sculpture installation by artist Sinead McCann

Commissioned by Belfast Exposed Gallery, curated by Tessa Giblin as part of The Pre History of the Crisis with artists: Susanne Bosch, Anthony Haughey, Daniel Jewesbury

Details: 3 wooden framed structures with steel fixtures hold large glass panels with perforated holes in place. The structures are positioned in a line as if in a queue in the gallery space. Fixed behind the large glass panels are wooden panels covered with blue tiled carpet making seeing through the glass impossible. Attached to the structure underneath the glass are fluorescent tube lighting with red filters. A number counter is attached to the gallery wall which buzzes and counts people as they enter.

This piece explores the act of waiting as a potentially violent act and the communication challenges within the context of bureaucratic spaces and systems.
